It is so fun to sell my dolls at the Farmers Market in Davis. I meet people there from all over the world. The first doll to sell was on her way to the Alps in Italy. I sold many dolls and soon must replenish my supply for the upcoming holiday season. There are many fairs that I go to in the San Francisco area and around Northern California. I hope you enjoy viewing this basket of storyteller puppets.

Waldorf Doll -- Storyteller Puppet

Okay the sideways photos are an issue. I took these photos from my camera phone and I think that is the problem. The photos are not sideways on Etsy so it could be a problem with the website. I'm so sorry. The doll is 10" tall and the sleeves are empty for your index finger and thumb for puppeteering. The cape, hat and leggings are made of a recycled angora/lambswool sweater which was felted in the washing machine. The doll skin is light brown and her hair is dark brown mohair boucle which makes for soft curls.

I have had some customers tell me that they take the storyteller out only at bedtime, which makes it very much fun for young children to go to bed at night.

Doll With Indigo Dyed Bamboo Velour Body

I can't figure out how to turn the other photo around so you can see it better (sorry). Still kinda new at this. Anyway, this 10" tall doll was made in the traditional Waldorf fashion only the body is made from indigo dyed bamboo velour (organic). The fabric is so soft and snuggly, it is almost like silk velvet. The wig is crocheted and brushed up to look more baby-like. The rainbow silk in the background was also dyed with natural ingredients. I have also learned (from Etsy) that natural lighting is best, as you will see from my next blog. Sunflower Child

A woman at work, who collects sunflower art, lost her mother a week prior to Mother's Day. I had wanted to make a sunflower doll for her anyway so thought this would be good timing. The doll, by herself, stands 6" tall and is made from 100% wool felt. She is stuffed with wool and her hands are cloth-covered wooden beads on a pipe cleaner, making the arms poseable. The stem of the flower is wool felt sewn around a pipe cleaner. The center of the sunflower is brown wool which has been needle-felted into the flower. Her hair is the same color brown wool roving.

Bunnies

These bunnies are made from upcycled sweaters -- either cashmere or angora. The sweaters are washed in hot water in the washing machine causing the fibers to catch onto each other (felting). The sweaters are then dryed in the dryer. I cut off all parts of the sweater which will not be used and then the fabric is ready (no fraying). I also use this method with my dollmaking. The bunnies are stuffed with wool and lavender. Just at the top of the photo you can see "baby carrots" which are made of wool felt. The green mohair is needle-felted into the head.

The title of the symposium is "Childhood -- Cultivating the Wisdom of the Pure Heart" and much of the weekend focuses on puppeteering and storytelling. So I hope my storyteller puppets sell well!

Knot Doll

This is a knot doll, or as some call it, a "blankie" doll. This is the best suited doll for a baby's first doll. I made this one from cotton flannel but I now use wool sweaters which have been felted in the washing machine. Wool is the only fiber that naturally resists flame. Wool is also a bit easier to sew with as it has some give (stretch) to it.

Mother Earth

Here is Mother Earth and her root children. Her hair is braided wool roving. Vintage lace detail at neckline. Her body is made from 100% cotton flannel and her apron is 100% wool felt. The root children are dressed in simple buntings made with cotton flannel and are tucked into the pockets of the apron. Mother and children are stuffed with wool. She stands 18 inches tall and the children are 3 inches long without the hat.

Snow Babies

It might be a little premature for these little guys to appear on my blog but I've actually gotten in the mood to make them. Yes, they will appear at the holiday event noted in my calendar on my website. They are my own design and are simply made from a circle of felted wool/angora sweater and a little hat. The scarf was made from a sweater also. On these babies there is no mouth, leaving it to the child's imagination whether the snow baby is happy or just content...

Pumpkin Baby

Now that my daughter has started college, I'm beginning to think about the autumn season, my favorite of the year, when the leaves start to fall, acorns fall to the ground and pumpkins are harvested. This pumpkin was made from a kit from de Witte Engel in the Netherlands. The stem is a pipecleaner covered with wool. The body and hat are 100% wool felt also from de Witte Engel.

10-inch Waldorf Doll

This doll was made using felted sweater fabric for the body rather than skin fabric. The lavender jumper is made with 100% wool felt. Her hair is a crochet mohair wig. I find that it is economically beneficial to occasionally make dolls with sweater fabric skin and it looks good also.

Needle-Felted Fairy Dolls

These 6" tall dolls were made using a pipe-cleaner for the arms and wool roving wrapped around them. The rest of the body was made with dyed wool. The wool was held together by using a felting needle.

This doll is about 10 inches tall excluding the cap. It was made from a recycled wool felted sweater. I go to thrift stores and buy wool/angora blend sweaters, sometimes cashmere, and put them into the washing machine. The agitation felts the wool. Then the sweaters go into the dryer and when they are dry I cut off all the unusable parts and use the fabric for my dolls. The head is made in the traditional waldorf style and the muff is extended to about four inches (just below the waistline). The leggings are added onto the body and then the dress. The sleeves are empty for puppeteering.

Baby Carrots and Bunnies

The baby carrots are my own design. The head is a traditional Waldorf style head and the hair is needle-felted onto the head. The body is 100% wool felt from the Netherlands. My apologies for the photo -- it is not as clear as I would like it to be. The baby carrots are one of my best sellers, especially at the farmers market, but they do sell year-round. The bunnies were made from a pattern and are also wool felt and stuffed with wool.

These 16-inch babies were made in the Waldorf tradition. The nighties are made of cotton flannel. These babies were adopted and now live in Japan.

Seahorse

This 10-inch seahorse is made from 100% wool felt from the Netherlands. I downloaded the pattern from the internet (isn't google wonderful). Stuffed with lamb's wool and hand-stitched all the way around with a blanket stitch.

Mermaiden

This is a 16-inch Waldorf-inspired mermaiden. Her head is made in the traditional Waldorf manner with an inner head made of wool and embroidered facial features. Her hair is made of mohair bouclez yarn. Her tail and bodice are made from a vintage fabric with rhinestone embellishment.

Everyday Angel

This six-inch tall angel is made from wool felt from the Netherlands. She is stuffed with carded lamb's wool and her facial features are embroidered. Her hair is a crochet mohair wig. She is my own design. A simple everyday angel. At some point I may post the pattern and instructions for making her.

Daffodil Child

This little doll is a 6" tall nature table doll. She is made of 100% wool felt, stuffed with lamb's wool, and has embroidered facial features. She has a pipecleaner armature and the stem is also made with pipecleaner covered with wool felt. She took nearly three hours to make -- isn't she so adorable?

I'm going to give this blogging a try. I so admire other bloggers and have wanted to try my hand at it....so here we go.

Dollmaking has become my passion--I only wish I had more time for it than I have now. I became interested in Waldorf dollmaking when my daughter was in a Waldorf kindergarten (she's now in college). It has changed my life. When I retire from my regular job I will make dolls full-time and will teach dollmaking. I will try to post as often as possible, showing you my dolls and sharing a bit about each of them.

The doll you see above stands 6" tall (exluding flower she's holding). She (a violet child) is a nature table doll or makes a great gift for any one. She is made of 100% wool felt and is stuffed with lamb's wool. Her facial features are hand-embroidered and her hair is tibetan lamb's wool.
